Spam Filtering/Blocking
Digital Link's Spam Blocking service can help reduce your junkmail:

What is Spam?

Spam is basically any email that you receive that you did not request. It fills your mailbox and makes a lot of unnecessary work to delete it all. It exposes our kids to content we do not wish for them to see. And its clogging up the Internet.

Since the Internet is basically a large unregulated entity, Spam has grown like wild fire in the past couple of years. There is no simple way to remove Spam from the Internet or from your mailbox. Methods to block Spam are not perfect, and can block legitimate email as well. For a more detailed explanation of Spam, visit http://spam.abuse.net/

Digital Link respects our user's right to choose whether to block or filter spam or to do nothing at all. Many providers enforce mandatory filtering, unfortunately for you the subscriber that can mean blocking legitimate email.

What follows is directions to use the Digital Link spam filtering/blocking feature. We hope it helps to improve your Internet experience.

How to filter or block Spam from your Digital Link mailbox:

Digital Link has two methods to remove Spam from your mailbox. Spam filtering is not a perfect science. 99% of the Spam detected by our filtering is truly SPAM email. Unfortunately there is always that 1% that could be legitimate email. The method you choose for removing Spam is up to you.

Filtering

Filtering is the process where email that is suspected as Spam is sorted from the incoming email and placed into a separate mailbox simply named SPAM. Since the email is not deleted but simply sorted, you have the ability to quickly scan through the messages that have been sorted to ensure that it does not contain legitimate email and bulk delete the rest of the junk. This is the most popular method, but it does still require you to scan through the filtered messages on a regular basis. Since the messages are sorted into a SPAM folder within your mailbox, it will consume some of 5Mb of mailbox space that you are allocated. If you allow it grow and never clean it out, it will eventually consume your 5Mb and you can then no longer receive incoming mail.

Blocking

Blocking is similar to Filtering and uses the same process to detect Spam as Filtering. However, blocking automatically deletes the messages from the incoming email and does not sort them into a separate folder. The advantage of this method is that it requires no intervention on your part as the messages are automatically deleted. The disadvantage of this method is that there is a potential that it could delete email that you would consider legitimate. You should choose this method only if you are sure that the email you are expecting is not tagged as SPAM. Digital Link recommends that before you choose this method, that you try the Filtering method for a period of time to see what types of messages are being filtered.

Enabling Spam Blocking/Filtering

Spam filtering/blocking within Digital Link can only be done from within the Digital Link webmail system.  The SPAM folder used as part of the filtering process is also accessible from the webmail system.
